Which Brand Should I Write About First?

Go to Table of Contents

Since I submitted my first post for this blog, I have begun to consider which brands I will write about. There are so many out there that it’s difficult to pick which one will be the jumping off point. I want the first brand I write about to enjoy the post and decide that they want to start a relationship with me. I understand that this is a bit presumptuous on my part, but I am so eager to do this right that I don’t want to mess up. I want the first brand post to be one that I’m proud of, not one that I’m going to delete in a few months.

A major dilemma when it comes to picking the first brand is the fact that I have never worn makeup in my entire life and I am the exact opposite of a fashionista. This is why I wanted to start this project in the first place. I wanted to challenge people’s preconceived notions of what it takes to be a beauty guru. In the process I know that I am going to have to get out of my comfort zone and humble myself a bit. These things are a natural part of becoming involved in a world about which you know nothing.

Becoming involved in the beauty world has its perks. Namely the amount of content that's out there for every possible topic and brand. You can find someone who wrote or filmed an exhaustive review of almost any product on the market today. I plan to draw from these resources to generate my brand posts. These posts will not necessarily be reviews as I do not have the firsthand experience with the products that I would need to prove that I am knowledgeable about them.

I really do not like it when someone says that they’re creating a review about something and they have never even laid eyes on the product they’re reviewing, let alone actually taken the time to put it through its paces to be able to tell people what it was all about. So many content creators will throw whatever they can at the wall, hoping it sticks and it will get them the followers and clicks that they crave. I understand if a creator approaches this stuff honestly and actually takes the time to review the product. In situations where they don’t, I feel like they are doing a disservice to their audience.

I am not the kind of person who’s going to go around and say that this brand is bad or that brand is bad unless the brands in question are doing something to warrant that distinction. These brands work hard to produce products they think the public is going to like. When someone comes along to trash their efforts in an uninformed way, all their hard work goes down the drain and that’s not fair. Content creators need to be more aware of the power they have and not misuse that power just for their selfish purposes.

The research process to find the right brand to serve as the first one that’s going to be covered on this blog is well underway. I won’t write any posts stating which brand will be covered first. This post is already doing enough to over explain something that should be posted without any nonsense beforehand. I like to put together posts like these because they outline my thought process and take you into the intricacies that make up this blog. I doubt that this going to interest many people, but I hope that all of you are willing to come along for the ride.

I want the format of each profile to be easy to read compared to some of the other ones I have come across. The profiles will not be as long as these posts. I plan to group brands together depending on the type of products they offer, giving visitors the chance to compare and contrast based on the kind of product they need. I have not ready many other beauty blogs. I know that’s going to change as time goes on and I begin to research particular products.

I am aware that there are a lot creators are unwilling to create content of their own, deciding instead that they want to copy the hard work of others. I am not one of those creators. If I find a point that I want to use in one of my posts, I will either contact the person who wrote that post or credit them somewhere within the blog. If you read one of my posts and there aren’t any citations mentioned, you have to expect that I came up with the content within that post on my own. In these situations, any similarities between my content and the content of others is merely coincidental.

Saying that someone stole from you is different than having proof the thievery took place. Claiming someone stole from you without having proof is just as bad as people who steal other people’s work. You can’t go around claiming that someone else’s content is yours by saying that they stole it from you. It will do nothing but make you look foolish. The last thing you want to do when you have the eyes of the world on you is look foolish.

I am tempted to avoid consuming any content related to the brands I cover for fear that I might repeat some of the points others have stated over and over. I get that this approach will make it so I miss out on things that seem obvious. I will revisit these topics on a regular basis, changing and tweaking them using the feedback I receive. I never want the audience to think that I am someone who is incapable of making mistakes. On the contrary, these things happen and they happen often. That’s why edit buttons exist in the first place. I look forward to profiling any and every brand under the sun.

How Do You Become a Beauty Ambassador?

I’m new to the beauty game and something has always intrigued me about the people who are able to align themselves with a particular brand, serving in a role as that brand’s ambassador. I prefer to stay objective. I don’t want to be so tied to one brand that people begin to think that my opinions are my own. At the same time, I would love to establish a relationship that would allow me to talk about a brand and tell people how great they are. In my opinion, it’s possible for someone to be aligned with a brand without surrendering their objectivity. It all depends on the integrity of the content creator in question. Some content creators go out of their way to sell their souls to the highest bidder. I am not one of those creators.

I believe that every creator should have the option to monetize their content, allowing them to continue to do what they love without having to worry about pursuing work to supplement their dream. I do not believe that forays into the world of monetization should come at the expense of one’s integrity. That’s why I decided that I want to write this post before all of the others on this blog. I want people to be able to refer back to it on a regular basis. I am not owned by any of the brands that I talk about and I will never be. I want to talk about every brand under the sun in both negative and positive terms, giving the audience a sense of all perspectives on the matter.

I want this blog to be the first and last place people go when they want to learn about beauty. I know that there are many other people out there who are discussing this topic around the clock. I respect their place in the game and would never do anything to disparage them. I feel like there’s enough room for any content creator to talk about any topic. You have to realize that the people who are writing about certain things now will not be writing about them forever. At some point, they make the decision to call it a day, leaving the new creators responsible for carrying the torch into the future.

I also hate the fact that people decide that they don’t want to talk about something just because other people have a larger audience than theirs. Every content creator didn’t start at the top with the eyes and ears of the world on them. They had to go through the same struggles of thinking that no one wanted to hear their point of view. They had to deal with pieces of their content going unread and unnoticed. They had to deal with moments where the criticism of others seemed like it was too much to handle. Rather than sit on the sidelines or give up once and for all, they powered through these struggles because they maintained a devout belief in themselves.

That’s what every person should do if they’re doubting their ability to create content. Keep plugging away until someone listens and then use that momentum as a means to push yourself forward and accomplish even more objectives. You never know who might be paying attention to what you’re doing. Your persistence could serve as one person’s motivation to start finding their voice. I am appalled at the people who believe that people should keep quiet just because they fit into one of society’s many boxes. Content that many deem offensive is still content. Though the message of the content leaves many disgusted, it’s still the right of its creator to create it.

Whether or not their given the platform to spread their content to the masses is up to the people who are responsible for managing the platforms in question. A person can start their own operation and talk to their own audience. The process becomes increasingly more difficult as the content in question becomes more toxic. A content creator should do whatever they can to find their audience, even if doesn’t jump out to them right away. In the end, the journey that it takes to get them to that point is one that’s going to be the most worthwhile.

I’m not saying that the content I will create will be offensive. On the contrary, my content is probably the least controversial you will ever come across. I approach things this way because I believe that it’s foolish to alienate any portion of your current or potential audience simply because you want to seem outrageous. Measured, thoughtful content is likely to get much more of a response than anything that’s done for shock value.

Creators who lean on shocking material tend to tie themselves to that way of doing things forever. People look to them more for their ability to say shocking things than their ability to construct reasonable arguments. You can’t attain any semblance of longevity when you decide to go this route. I get that being shocking is often done to get clicks, but at what cost? You have to figure out whether you want to be known for what you have to say or if you want to be known for the few flash in the pan pieces of content you were able to create.

I choose to create content my way, hoping that people might come across it and enjoy what I have to say. I like being in my own little part of the internet and doing exactly what I want to do. I will never rule out the opportunity to collaborate with my fellow creators, but I will also never pursue these opportunities. Something about a creator going out of their way to chase collaborations reeks of desperation. You have to find like minded people organically and the content you will create will appear naturally. I hope that you stop by often and stay a while. I look forward to having more conversations with you.
